Temple Run 2 Review, Main Features, Gameplay and Video
Temple Run 2 is the sequel to the immensely popular endless runner designed by Imangi Studios. The latest installment in the series is loaded with a new engine, crisp character designs and challenging levels to deliver what is definitely an improvement on the original version. With 170m downloads on the original game, Imangi Studios had to go all the way to keep things interesting.
Temple Run 2 is an ‘endless runner’ which means that the playable character is constantly on the move and your job as the player is to duck, dodge, jump and slide in order to avoid obstacles and enemies in order to reach the final destination alive. Miscue a tap or slide, and your players will end up smacking into trees and rocks, falling to their doom or getting caught by the giant monkey that refuses to leave them alone. If you are unable to make it the end of the level alive then you have to start again from the beginning.
The formula for the original game was a winner therefore the sequel does not change it much. The controls are as simple as swiping up to jump, sideways to go left and right, swiping down to duck and slide, and tilting the screen to lean one way or the other. With these basic controls you should be able to avoid any obstacles in your path while collecting as many coins as possible along the way.
Minecart sections also add a new element to the gameplay. In these sections, the player drops into a minecart which is speeding wildly through the caves and the player has to maneuver it while ducking beams.
Gameplay aside, the most notable new addition is the new characters. Rather than playing as the only default character, players now get to choose between Karma Lee, Scarlett Fox, Guy Dangerous and Barry Bones. Some of them were available simply as upgrades in the original however in the sequel they have unique power-ups as well. These power-ups allow you to activate shielding, boost for faster running and a coin magnet to help you fill your pockets.
A stellar upgrade to a much-loved game.
One of the best additions to Temple Run 2 is the graphics. They’ve been improved on to give the levels a richer feel.
Prompts for in-app purchases are rather annoying. You can play through the game without making any purchase however it will be a lot tougher.
Temple Run 2 is still a free game therefore you will need lots of in-game currency to advance to the higher levels. Coins are the standard in-game currency and will be used to unlock new characters, increase the duration of your power-ups and make the coin bar fill faster. Gems, will be used for consumable items such as respawns that keep you from going all the way back to the beginning of the level.
Gamers of all kinds will love this game. That means that kids and parents alike, console-heads and mobile gamers as well will all agree that this game is worth playing.
