Mini DAYZ Review, Main Features, Gameplay and Video
Mini DAYZ is a survival horror game made by Bohemia Interactive and based on the hugely popular DayZ which was released in 2013. Since it’s designed for mobile, Mini DAYZ is a lot more pixelated and simpler to play.
Gameplay
The aim of this game is simple; keep your pixelated character alive. This means making sure that he’s clothed, fed, has a place to sleep and doesn’t become a snack for one of the millions of zombies that are roaming around. You start off with absolutely no resources and are forced to find stuff that you need by raiding abandoned homes and warehouses.
If you consider what most survival horror games are like then Mini DAYZ stands out as one of the more challenging tittles. The zombies are incredibly difficult to fight off and so too are the wild animals which also consider you to be food. Supplies are hard to come by and despite the tutorial, your first interaction with foes is very terrifying.
Moving around is generally easy but it gets hard when you have to switch to attack controls. Once you’ve picked up a couple of weapons then you have a choice between melee attacks for when your enemies get too close and range weapons to pick them off from afar. The only issue is that the controls are laid out so that you are constantly switching between the two which takes valuable seconds.
Each hit you take is potentially fatal because you start bleeding almost instantly. You’ll need to have bandages or a shirt to rip apart to stem the bleeding or you’ll be dead pretty fast. Sounds a bit harsh but this mixture of difficult combat and the near-fatality of every hit you take makes things very tense.
Due to the addictive nature of Mini DayZ you’re likely to play it for long stretches of time. Your progress is saved every few minutes therefore you’re more likely to play through until you die. This won’t take very long though but you’ll probably want to give your heart a chance to cool down before you try again.
The Good
This game is a brilliant challenge for hardcore RPG fans. It’s also pretty light in terms of CPU usage so your computer won’t be overloaded trying to play it but your keyboard is likely to suffer some damage when you freak out and start smashing all the keys in a vain attempt to save yourself.
The Bad
The difficulty curve is insane and may put off most causal gamers.
Conclusion
The game may be pixelated however the graphics do a brilliant job of making you feel involved. The only problem is that with the animals you can’t quite tell what that pixelated blob running at you is even though you know for certain that it means you harm. The soundtrack is pretty coll too but you won’t mind playing it on mute either.
All things considered, Mini DayZ is a brilliant game for fans of survival horror however it is not likely to win any awards.
