MARVEL Contest of Champions Review, Main Features, Gameplay and Video
MARVEL Contest of Champions looks like something that every comic book fan dreams about. This isn’t that surprising because this game is basically a collection of every single hero in Marvel’s Universe, which is pretty big. Things get even better when you realise that this is a fighting game and that means that every single hero will fight for himself in a large number of different tournaments.
The main reason why Marvel decided to develop and release this game is the fact that DC has made their own fighting game “Injustice: Gods Among Us”. So Marvel couldn’t just stand there and watch how DC get all of the fans and money. So they needed a game that can compete with DC’s Injustice and that’s where “Contest of Champions” comes in.
Both of these games are almost same, I mean, of course that there are some differences, but, both of them are about Super Heros who fight for Supremacy. Also, both games have great graphics and gameplay, so the only thing that sets them apart is the Universe and Heroes. Eventually, the only thing that’s left for us is to sit back and see which Universe has more fans.
Contest of Champions is made by Kabam, a company that made a name for itself by making high-quality strategic games. So it will be interesting to see that Kabam is able to make games besides strategy genre. If you start to play this game, you will see that they actually did a great job with the challenging control settings.
When it comes to the controls, fighting games are significantly harder to make because of the various combos, positioning, moving etc. But Kabam did a brilliant job by putting all of these controls into simple swipe and tap movements. That means that you will be able to dodge, block, attack with ease and the dose of elegance.
But, all this simplicity makes the game easy and not challenging at all, which is not good and as the time goes by game gets a bit boring. I mean there are various combos, but they don’t require any skills in order to be executed. So the only thing that might give you some troubles is reading the animations and predicting when the opponent will strike.
One of the best, if not the best things about this game is that the hero roster is absolutely huge. But unlocking them takes some time, because just like most of the free-to-play games, you unlock heroes by paying for them, in this case with crystals. The unlocking process is random, so it might take a while until you unlock your favourite hero.
But, in a meanwhile, you can spend some time by upgrading heroes that you already own. When you complete a certain quest, you get some experience points which you can spend by boosting your hero’s stats. This upgrade system will help you a lot in battles, so spend it wisely!
Another thing that kinda kills the mood is the lack of variety. I mean, yeah, every hero has its unique animations but it’s really hard to differentiate them. It doesn’t matter if you’re Deadpool or Hulk, their technique is pretty much the same.
- Massive hero roster
- Large amount of tournaments
- Great graphics
- Simple to play
- Various combos
In order to play Marvel: Contest of Champions you will need a device with iOS, Android or Windows and more that 1GB of free space.

As of 29th June 2020 Kabam is no longer supporting X86 processors for Marvel Contest of Champions. True to their word I can no longer even login to the game via BlueStacks. This only a few months after they ended support for iPad 2 or lower hence why I came looking for this option in the first place. Pretty disappointing from them after having spent considerable money and time on this game over the past 5 or 6 years
