Vainglory Review, Main Features, Gameplay and Video
Vainglory was one the games that Apple used to showcase how powerful the iPhone 6 was at rendering graphics and it wowed the crowd. A little later Super Evil Megacorp delivered the game to players and it truly is as beautiful as they promised it would be.
Vainglory is a Multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game which is a new genre that is yet to pick up in the mobile gaming world however if the rest of the tittles on this genre are as a good as Vainglory then the genre is sure to gain plenty of fans very soon.
New developments will be made for the platform but right now it’s very simple. You’ve got 3v3 gameplay and only one map for now however the developers did a splendid job of bringing the most out of this one map. MOBA fans will get exactly what they love about this new genre.
During gameplay the minions fight it out for control of the main lane while turrets pick off any stragglers on the outskirts. Outside of that area is the jungle filled with neutral monsters that you can take down for experience and resources.
New minions appear every four minutes to mine for gold you can take that gold from enemy minions by taking them down before they can deliver their payloads.
The Jungle is the best place to find minions. The Kraken appears every fifteen minutes and and if you deal enough damage to it then it takes off down the enemy’s lane and destroys their turrets. Once it reaches the enemy’s Vain it delivers a terrible blow to their crystal which is what does the most destruction to your enemies.
Strategy is an important part of Vainglory because you have to keep an eye on every part of the map and ensure that your enemies aren’t trying to flank you.
The game will you give you visual and audio warnings if the enemy is about to sneak up on you and you can even use some of those cues to distract your enemy while you blindside them.
Battles last an average of half an hour and you have the option of choosing between four main classes of heroes; Assassin, Sniper, Protector and Warrior. Each has two regular abilities and an Ultimate attack which you can unlock when you reach level 12. Your success in the game is dependent on how well you deploy your heroes according to their abilities.
MOBA is new genre so the developers took their time to ensure that players new to MOBA are given a smooth introduction with plenty of tutorials that are easy to understand and training modes which give a feel for each of the heroes’ abilities. The graphics are very cool as well, just as beautiful as the pre-release demos promised.
The map is pretty small and 3v3 is rather few for a game that’s supposed to be for multiplayer enjoyment. It works well if you’re playing locally however the queues for online games are a major drawback.
Vainglory is the best example of how great MOBA games can be. We’re sure to see better versions and possibly even clones in the new future that will take this brilliantly developed game and make it even better.
