C&C: Rivals PVP Review, Main Features, Gameplay and Video

Command & Conquer is one the oldest real-time strategy games ever made. Command & Conquer: Rivals PVP is the latest version of the game from EA and it’s made for mobile gamers. The end result is pretty sweet.

The goal when playing Command & Conquer: Rivals is very simple. Commanders for either squad are placed on opposite ends of the map and the first one to find and destroy the other’s enemy base is the winner. How you go about doing that is up to you.

Gameplay

The simplest way to win would be to find your enemy’s base and go for a full-on assault but this does not always work out. When the battle starts the players will see a few zones on the screen which can be used as targeting points for nuclear missiles.

The nuclear missiles can only be used when the meter fills up. The meter fills up faster when you control larger areas of the map and a single nuclear missile strike can take half of your enemy base’s health. If you can manage to get two strikes in before your enemy can then you will win the game.

The battles are fun and you will probably engage in resource collection in between battles. Tiberium is a resource as old as the game itself and it can be used to build battle units in each zone. Other resources will allow you to increase your number of troops and sharpen up your weaponry.

The upgrade system for improving your ranks uses a card system. One card usually unlocks a single unit but you will need to use multiple cards of the same type to increase the unit’s ranking. You will also need to spend coins in order to use cards for upgrades.

At the beginning of the game you will only be allowed to play using the Global Defense Initiative. These are the good guys in the Command & Conquer storyline however fans of old will know that there is a rival faction known as Nod. They have their own set of commanders and units which makes playing as Nod a completely different challenge.

Unlocking Nod for playing with will take some time. You just have to play through with the Global Defense Initiative until you reach level 9. Keep in mind that how your ranking advances depends on which faction you choose to play as.

The Good

Matches play out fairly fast and, unlike other similar games, there is no energy meter which limits how long you can play for.

The Bad

The game does not use energy meters but they do limit how many resources you can earn by restricting your access to ‘gas cans’. Fewer gas cans means that you can only open so many new chests at a time.

Conclusion

Command & Conquer: Rivals has enough going on that it feels different from other RTS games. There is still enough to keep it connected to original C&C games but many fans may feel that this was not the game that they wanted. Even so, the gameplay is solid.
