Arena of Valor Review, Main Features, Gameplay and Video

Arena of Valor is a multiplayer online battle arena game designed and developed by Tencent Games. This game was launched in China in 2017 and brought in close to $2 billion in revenue which made it the highest grossing game of 2017. They love this game in the Far East but it struggled to replicate that success in North America.

Gameplay

The prime objective in Arena of Valor is working your way through enemy towers. You’ll need to defeat both NPC grunts and human opponents at the same time. The mission is successful when you make it to the enemy tower’s core.

Each round starts at square one. Your player will grow and level up to become stronger after defeating enemies, destroying enemy towers or taking down monsters in side missions. Players who are successful in battle will be rewarded with in-game currency which can be used to unlock special attacks or buy accessories such as armor and weaponry.

Grand battles are the meaty part of Arena of Valor. This mode features two teams of five that are placed in an arena where they have to take down a total of nine enemy towers by fighting to their cores. The team which takes down more towers is the winner.

Valley Skirmishes are similar to Grand Battles but they feature teams of three rather than five and there are only two towers to conquer. Abyssal Clash is a five on five battle where the teams fight each other rather than trying to take down towers. Solo battles are one-on-one competitions with single towers.

Coins and vouchers are the primary forms of currency that you can earn in this game. Fighting is the quickest way to accumulate in-game currency and chests come a close second. You get daily rewards as well but the payouts are slower than waiting at a Bitcoin faucet.

The developers went all in on customization options. Leveling up allows you to unlock more Arcana slots which are where you will store your character’s new buffs for increased strength, defense and energy. These upgrades are bought at the Armory.

Handling all of your upgrades takes you away from the fun of gameplay so the developers included an auto-buy option. You just select the upgrades that you want to have and they will automatically be bought and equipped when you have enough in-game currency for them. This simple mechanic will save you a lot of time.

The Good

Antaris Battlefield looks spectacular. The gameplay is so swift and sleek that you’ll enjoy every moment of the battle arena, regardless of which mode you choose to play.

The graphics and sound effects in Arena of Valor are among the best that you will find on a MOBA game.

The Bad

You cannot play ranked matches until you have unlocked five characters. You’ll need in-game currency to unlock these characters or you can use real-world money. The best character that you can buy, Lu Bu, costs about $10 if you decide to use real-world currency.

Conclusion

The short matches and intuitive player tools will keep MOBA players engaged for extended periods. The developers managed to fit complex mechanics into a simple format and they pulled it off well.
